Death Stranding

Release Date: Nov 8, 2019
Developer: Kojima Productions

Hideo Kojima built Death Stranding as Kojima Productions' debut after re-forming as an independent studio, partnering with Sony Interactive Entertainment and licensing the Decima engine from Guerrilla Games. The result was unlike anything in the action genre: a strand-based open world where players control Sam Porter Bridges on a mission to reconnect isolated communities, and every player's footpath becomes a shared resource for others online. Death Stranding used full performance capture throughout, with actors providing voice, face, and body simultaneously on stage, a production approach that shaped every casting decision.

Death Stranding Voice Cast: Norman Reedus, Mads Mikkelsen, Troy Baker and Léa Seydoux

The Death Stranding voice cast draws from Hollywood and the highest tier of game performance. Norman Reedus leads as Sam Porter Bridges, bringing the physical restraint he built across eleven seasons as Daryl Dixon in The Walking Dead. Mads Mikkelsen plays Clifford Unger, a man with a mysterious connection to Sam, whose motivation proves far more complicated than it first appears; Mikkelsen’s credits include Hannibal, Doctor Strange, and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, and his ability to carry moral weight without exposition is exactly what Cliff’s arc demands. Troy Baker voices Higgs Monaghan, the ruthless leader of the militant separatist group Homo Demens. Baker played Joel in The Last of Us, a man broken by grief; Higgs is the inverse, someone who chose destruction. Léa Seydoux plays Fragile with the same controlled ambiguity she brought to her Bond films, keeping the character’s allegiances uncertain throughout.
