Zootopia 2
Zootopia 2 is built on the same premise as the original: that the city’s social architecture is more fragile than it looks, and the wrong outsider can expose exactly how fragile. The outsider this time is Gary De’Snake, a pit viper whose appearance in Zootopia turns the mammal metropolis upside down and triggers a conspiracy that pulls Judy and Nick into unfamiliar territory. Bush and Howard designed the film around new districts, expanding the world rather than retreading it. The result won the BAFTA for Best Animated Film and earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Animated Feature.
The Zootopia 2 voice cast makes its sharpest new choices in roles that drive the story. Ke Huy Quan voices Gary De’Snake, the pit viper at the center of the mystery. Quan won an Oscar for his portrayal of Waymond Wang in Everything Everywhere All at Once, and his ability to make a character sympathetic without softening their edges is exactly what Gary needs. Quinta Brunson plays Dr. Fuzzby, a quokka who leads a support group for unconventional duos. The creator and star of Abbott Elementary, Brunson uses deadpan timing disguised as warmth, which fits a character whose job is managing chaos with a steady voice. Patrick Warburton voices Mayor Winddancer, a former movie star turned politician. His Kronk in The Emperor’s New Groove established a gift for making oblivious confidence feel charming; Winddancer runs on that same frequency.
