Ginnifer Goodwin

Ginnifer Goodwin’s Road from Memphis to the Recording Booth
Growing up in Memphis, Tennessee, with a father who owned a recording studio, Ginnifer Goodwin was surrounded by creative energy from the start. After earning a BFA in acting from Boston University in 2001 and training at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London, she built her screen career through guest spots on Law & Order and a recurring role on Ed. HBO’s Big Love (2006-2011) put her on the map as Margene Heffman, a young wife navigating a polygamist household. That six-season run proved she could anchor a complex ensemble, and it opened the door to everything that followed.
Once Upon a Time and the Disney Connection
From 2011 to 2018, Goodwin starred as Snow White and her Storybrooke alter ego Mary Margaret Blanchard in ABC’s Once Upon a Time. The fantasy series ran for seven seasons and turned her into a household name, connecting her permanently with the Disney brand. That bond would soon extend far beyond live action. Her first animated voice role arrived in 2005 with Adult Swim’s Robot Chicken, where her sister Melissa Goodwin works as a stop-motion animator. She returned for seven episodes across the show’s early seasons, voicing a rotating cast of characters.
Judy Hopps and the Zootopia Franchise
The role that redefined Goodwin’s career in animation was Judy Hopps, the optimistic rabbit police officer at the center of Disney’s Zootopia (2016). The film earned over a billion dollars worldwide and won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. Goodwin’s vocal performance carried the entire story, blending determination, humor, and warmth in a way that resonated with all ages. She won the Voice Arts Award for Outstanding Motion Picture Animation and earned a People’s Choice Award nomination for the role. Judy Hopps has since become one of Disney’s most recognizable modern characters. Goodwin reprised the role in the Disney+ short series Zootopia+ (2022), the animated short Once Upon a Studio (2023), and the sequel Zootopia 2 (2025).
The Disney Fairies and Other Voice Credits
Beyond Zootopia, Goodwin voiced Fawn in Tinker Bell and the Legend of the NeverBeast (2014) and companion shorts Tink’n About Animals (2015). She also played Gwen in a 2013 episode of Disney Junior’s Sofia the First and voiced the lead mermaid in a SpongeBob SquarePants episode. On the gaming side, she reprised Judy Hopps in Disney Infinity 3.0 (2015). Each credit reinforced her standing as a go-to voice for Disney animation throughout the 2010s and into the 2020s.
