Long before she was voicing one of anime’s most iconic heroines, Fairouz Ai was working as a dental assistant – quietly setting aside money for the voice training school her parents had initially discouraged. Born July 6, 1993, in Tokyo to a Japanese mother and an Egyptian father, she split part of her childhood between Japan and Cairo, where she attended the Cairo Japanese School. After completing her training and signing with Pro-Fit, Fairouz landed her first major role in 2019 as Hibiki Sakura in How Heavy Are the Dumbbells You Lift? – a physically comedic fitness anime that demanded both comedic energy and genuine warmth. She and Kaito Ishikawa co-performed the opening theme “Onegai Muscle,” and her promotional appearances in actual weightlifting videos made the debut anything but low-key. April 2021 brought the announcement that anchored everything: Fairouz would voice Jolyne Cujoh in JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean. She had been a fan since middle school, organizing reading sessions over Skype with fellow JoJo enthusiasts. The casting was not just professionally significant – it was the realization of a specific, decade-long ambition. Her portrayal of Jolyne’s fierce defiance and emotional complexity drew from that personal investment, and international audiences responded to the rawness she brought to the role across the series’ 2021-2023 run.

Chainsaw Man, Kaiju No. 8, and the Expansion Into Game Leads

Power in Chainsaw Man (2022) required something completely different – a character running on chaos, selfishness, and unpredictable loyalty. Fairouz delivered a performance that leaned into Power’s anarchic personality without losing the strange pathos underneath it. Around the same period she transferred to Raccoon Dog agency in late 2021, later moving to Mausu Promotion. Kikoru Shinomiya in Kaiju No. 8 (2024) added a third defining role: a driven, fiercely skilled soldier whose emotional arc across the series gave Fairouz room to work at a different register. That same year, she won the Foreign Film and Live-Action Show Award at the 19th Seiyu Awards alongside Maaya Uchida, recognition tied to her Japanese dubbing work in international productions including the dual role of Osha and Mae Aniseya in the Japanese version of Star Wars: The Acolyte.
