If you’re into fantasy anime with gorgeous visuals and a chill adventure vibe, Tales of Zestiria: The X might be something to check out. It’s based on the game Tales of Zestiria and was animated by Ufotable, which basically means every frame looks incredible. Like, seriously, you could pause at any random moment and it’d still look amazing.

The story follows Sorey, this super nice guy who grew up around magical beings called Seraphim. One day he ends up becoming the “Shepherd,” which is a fancy title for the one person who can purify all the bad energy in the world. He teams up with his best friend Mikleo, a water Seraphim who’s basically the calm, smarter one of the two. Their friendship is lowkey the most wholesome part of the show.

Sorey’s voiced by Robbie Daymond in English, who’s done tons of anime and game roles, and Ryōhei Kimura in Japanese. Mikleo is voiced by Philip Lamont in English and Ryōta Ōsaka in Japanese. Both of them do a great job making their friendship feel genuine and fun.

You’ve also got Alisha, the brave knight princess who’s trying to fix the mess her kingdom’s in. She’s voiced by Alexis Tipton in English and Ai Kayano in Japanese. Then there’s Rose, the merchant with some serious skills, voiced by Caitlin Glass in English and Misato Fukuen in Japanese. Honestly, she brings a bit more edge and personality into the mix.

Lailah, the fire Seraph who acts like Sorey’s magical mentor, has a playful but wise vibe, and her English voice is done by Carrie Keranen. And let’s not forget Zaveid, the shirtless flirt with wind powers. He’s wild, fun, and voiced by Ian Sinclair in English and Kenjiro Tsuda in Japanese.

The show starts off a little slow, and the plot isn’t exactly groundbreaking—it’s got that “young hero saves the world” formula going on—but if you’re in it for the animation and fantasy setting, it delivers. The action scenes are flashy, the world feels huge, and the music adds a lot of atmosphere.

There’s also a weird moment halfway through where the show just stops and spends a couple episodes focusing on Tales of Berseria, another game in the series. It’s a cool side story, but kind of random if you’re only here for Zestiria.

All in all, it’s a nice, easy watch. It’s not the most emotionally deep anime out there, but it looks amazing and has some likable characters with solid voice performances. If you’ve played the game or just want to vibe with a fantasy adventure that doesn’t take itself too seriously, it’s worth a shot.

Next, let’s talk more about the characters themselves and the voice actors behind them—who really brought the story to life and gave the show its personality.
