Long before earning a Daytime Emmy, Benjamin Diskin was already building a career that would stretch across live-action films, Saturday morning cartoons, anime dubbing, and video game booths. His path started in front of the camera as a child actor in Kindergarten Cop (1990), where he shared a Young Artist Award win with the ensemble cast. By 1993, he had pivoted to voice work as Junior Healy in the animated Problem Child series – a role that planted the seeds for what became one of the most wide-ranging careers in the American voice acting industry.

Landing two leads in the same series is a challenge most voice actors never face. On Codename: Kids Next Door (2002-2008), Diskin voiced both Numbuh 1 (Nigel Uno) – the determined British-accented squad leader – and Numbuh 2 (Hoagie P. Gilligan Jr.), his wisecracking, heavyset best friend. Keeping those two voices distinct across six seasons required careful separation during recording sessions. Anime dubbing gave Diskin a second identity with genre audiences. His portrayal of Sai in Naruto: Shippuden – an emotionally detached shinobi learning to express himself – demanded restraint where most performances lean into energy. The contrast with his take on the young, brash Joseph Joestar in JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Battle Tendency showed exactly how wide his register runs. He also brought sharp character work to Ban in The Seven Deadly Sins, Satoru Fujinuma in Erased, and Knuckle Bine in Hunter x Hunter, building a body of dubbed anime work that holds up alongside his Western animation credits.

Video Games, Muppets, and a Daytime Emmy

Young Xehanort in the Kingdom Hearts series gave Diskin one of his most distinctive game credits – a role he recorded without context to mirror the character’s emotional blankness, a creative choice that landed. His portrayal of Black Doom in Sonic X Shadow Generations became a fan moment in 2024 when he turned his Twitter account into a mock Black Doom takeover. Meanwhile, voicing both Gonzo and Rizzo in the Muppet Babies revival (2018-2022) earned him the Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Performer in a Preschool Animated Program in 2019 – a milestone that crossed him from cult favorite into award-recognized territory.

Standing for Union Work in a Shifting Industry

By 2022, Diskin began narrowing his commitments to SAG-AFTRA union productions, publicly stepping back from non-union anime dubs and citing concerns about fair pay and working conditions following major studio mergers. In March 2026, he announced he would not continue as Mega Man after Capcom declared the upcoming Mega Man: Dual Override a non-union project, specifically flagging AI protection as a key concern. SAG-AFTRA subsequently issued a “Do Not Work” order on the game. His advocacy has made him one of the louder voices on labor rights in voice acting circles.
