Akari Kito’s Journey from Nagoya to the Seiyuu Spotlight

A childhood spent watching anime and playing video games under her father’s influence set the course for Akari Kito’s career long before she stood in front of a microphone. Raised in Aichi Prefecture, she played bass in her school’s light music club, drawing inspiration from the manga series K-On!, and once considered becoming an illustrator. Financial strain around her family’s move to Tokyo pushed her toward a different path, and in 2014 she debuted as a seiyuu. Two years later, Time Bokan 24 handed her a first major role as Calen, opening the door to the leading parts that would define her twenties.

Nezuko Kamado and the Demon Slayer Phenomenon

Few castings have reshaped a career the way Nezuko Kamado reshaped Kito’s. Landing the part in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba in 2018, she carried the nearly wordless demon sister through the original series, the Mugen Train film, and on through 2025’s Infinity Castle, reprising the role as the franchise became a global box office force. The performance demanded restraint over range, conveying emotion through breath and murmur, and it introduced her to audiences well outside Japan’s usual anime circles.

Nijigasaki, Idol Units, and a Singing Career

Kito’s voice work runs parallel to a music career that began in October 2019, when Pony Canyon signed her as a solo artist on her 25th birthday. As a founding cast member of Love Live! Nijigasaki High School Idol Club, voicing Kanata Konoe, she helped build one of the franchise’s most durable fan bases and later joined its QU4RTZ subunit. Her solo singles have charted inside Oricon’s top twenty, with 2020’s Kimi no Tonari de reaching the top ten, and she released her eighth single, Hikari yo, Boku ni, in February 2026.

Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun, Genshin Impact, and Recent Credits

Beyond Demon Slayer, Kito voices Nene Yashiro in Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun and Barbara in Genshin Impact, two roles that anchor her presence in television anime and mobile gaming alike. Her game credits extend to Silence in Arknights, Ashley Graham in the Resident Evil 4 remake, and Celine in Fire Emblem Engage. Awards recognition followed in 2021 with a Best Supporting Actress win at the Seiyu Awards, shared with Reina Ueda. Heading into 2026, she added Mirica Huguria in Kunon the Sorcerer Can See and Aki Jogamine in Scum of the Brave to a schedule that shows no sign of slowing.
