Dr. Casper Darling

Video Game: CONTROL Resonant

Within the walls of the Federal Bureau of Control, few figures loom larger than Dr. Casper Darling, even in his absence. The FBC's former Head of Research is the ghost haunting every corridor of the Oldest House, his recorded presentations threading through the narrative of Control Resonant like transmissions from another dimension.

Dr. Casper Darling’s Role in Control Resonant

Darling vanished at the end of the original Control, having followed the entity Hedron across a dimensional threshold just as the Hiss invasion began. His last known trace surfaced in Alan Wake 2, with implications that he had wound up stranded in the Dark Place. Control Resonant brings him back into the fold, with live-action video appearances that shed light on protagonist Dylan Faden’s early history with the Bureau. He may no longer walk the halls of the Oldest House in person, but his research, his HRAs, and his obsessions continue to shape the world around every character who remains.

The Mind Behind the Resonance

What makes Darling so compelling is the slow, visible unraveling of a man who never stops smiling through the unraveling. He began his FBC career as the quintessential enthusiastic scientist, genuinely thrilled by every impossible thing placed in front of him. Exposure to Hedron’s frequencies eroded that clarity without ever killing his wonder, and that tension, a man growing paranoid and overwhelmed while still exuberantly in love with the weirdness destroying him, is what made him the most memorable presence in the original game. His decision to install Hedron Resonance Amplifiers throughout the Bureau, a move driven by equal parts insight and obsession, ultimately saved the FBC from total annihilation. Not bad for someone who left Earth’s dimension before the crisis even peaked.

Who Voices Dr. Casper Darling in Control Resonant?

Matthew Porretta portrays Dr. Casper Darling in both the original Control and Control Resonant, delivering the role through live-action performance rather than traditional voice work. Porretta is a Broadway-trained American actor with a long history in the Remedy universe, best known to gaming audiences as the voice of Alan Wake across the entire franchise, from the 2010 original through Alan Wake 2 and Quantum Break. That dual presence in the same connected universe, voicing Alan Wake while embodying Darling, gives him a uniquely layered role in Remedy’s expanding multiverse.
