How Fortnite Built Its Voice Cast Season by Season
Battle Royale’s earliest seasons had no voice acting at all. Epic’s instinct was to let the island do the talking map changes and environmental clues carried the narrative while characters stayed silent. Save the World operated differently, with voiced heroes and quest-givers building a story about humanity’s last stand against a world-ending storm. When Battle Royale finally introduced speaking characters, the production scaled fast. The Fortnite voice cast grew from a handful of Save the World regulars into one of the most expansive rosters in live-service gaming, built out across seasons rather than through a single development cycle.
Fortnite Cast Spotlight: Agent Jones, Midas, and Ray
Troy Baker voices Agent Jones, the IO operative turned multiversal protagonist who became the connective tissue of multiple chapter storylines; Baker’s work as Joel in The Last of Us established the register of exhausted-but-committed the character needed. Matthew Mercer voices both Midas and Syd, and his Chapter 2 Season 2 performance on Midas made that character one of the most discussed in the game’s history Mercer’s experience with calculating antagonists like McCree in Overwatch gave the role a specific menace. Ashly Burch voices Ray in Save the World with a warmth that set the tone for how Epic approached original character writing across modes; her work as Aloy in Horizon Zero Dawn meant she was already one of the most recognisable voices in games at the time of casting.
