Anna Demetriou’s Path from Stage to AAA Game Franchises
The Chester-born actress who stepped off London’s LAMDA stages and into some of the biggest video game productions of the 2020s, Anna Demetriou represents a new generation of British performers whose careers span screen, motion capture, and high-profile voice work. Growing up in Backford, Cheshire, she cut her teeth at the B-It Theatre Company from the age of eight, eventually earning a place at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. Her film debut came in 2018 opposite Oscar-nominated Terence Stamp in Viking Destiny, where she played the lead role of Princess Helle of Volsung – the kind of sword-and-shield heroine that would prove oddly predictive of the gaming roles ahead.
That same year she appeared in The Marine 6: Close Quarters as Katrina Rodriguez, marking her second leading credit in quick succession. Then voice work entered the picture. Her early game credits – Bo in Once Upon a Crime in the West (2019), SAIC Rowena Dulli in Star Citizen (2019-2021), and Dulcinea in The Ascent (2021) – laid the groundwork without breaking into public consciousness. The acceleration came with the wave of prestige action-RPGs released between 2022 and 2023.
A Plague Tale, Final Fantasy, and the Baldur’s Gate Breakthrough
Sophia in A Plague Tale: Requiem (2022) changed the trajectory. A supporting character in Asobo Studio’s survival epic, Sophia is a morally layered smuggler whose arc captured player attention far beyond what a secondary role might typically achieve. Demetriou brought emotional texture to a character navigating plague, loyalty, and survival across a medieval Mediterranean setting – a performance that would, ultimately, convince the studio to build an entire game around her.
Final Fantasy XVI (2023) added Dorys to the slate, and Baldur’s Gate 3 brought three distinct characters: the tiefling Mirie, Fist Jagic, and Fist of Bane Zana Hade. The latter title’s colossal critical reception – one of the highest-rated games of its generation – placed Demetriou’s name inside a release that dominated gaming discourse for the better part of two years. The same period saw her lending additional voices to Horizon Forbidden West and its Burning Shores expansion, deepening a portfolio that now covered action-RPG, open-world, and fantasy-epic genres simultaneously.
Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy and a Career-Defining Lead
Announced in 2025, Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy is the credit that repositions everything that came before it. Asobo Studio and Focus Entertainment green-lit the spin-off with Sophia as the player-character protagonist – the first time the A Plague Tale series has centered on a character outside the de Rune siblings. Set fifteen years before Requiem on a Minotaur mythology-inflected island, Resonance hands Demetriou not just a returning role but the full weight of a franchise-level lead. She has described the announcement publicly as the biggest moment of her career, having kept the project under wraps for years. The 2026 release marks a clean before-and-after line in her trajectory.
Between Sophia’s expansion and credits in Fallout: London (2024), The First Descendant (2024), Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II (2024), The First Berserker: Khazan (2025), and Crimson Desert (2026), the breadth of Demetriou’s game work now runs across AAA, indie, and live-service titles. She also maintains an active Twitch presence as a Partner and pursues a parallel career as a singer-songwriter – a multidisciplinary profile that has become something of a signature for the streaming era of voice performance.
