Erica Mendez

Erica Mendez voice actor profile
Birth Date: 13/02/1988

Voice acting found Mendez after three years studying graphic design in college, and Los Angeles became home base. English-language anime dubbing followed for over a decade, with studios including Bang Zoom! Entertainment and Crunchyroll. Best known for voicing Ryuko Matoi in Kill la Kill, Gon Freecss in Hunter x Hunter, and Megumin in Konosuba, she adapts scripts and directs dubs.

Erica Mendez’s Rise Through Anime Dubbing

Growing up in Chicago, Erica Mendez didn’t set out to voice cartoon characters. She spent three years studying graphic design in college before turning toward the recording booth, landing her first major role as the title character in the 2013 video game Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures. That early credit opened the door to a run of leading parts that would define her career in English-language anime dubbing.

Kill la Kill and the Ryuko Matoi Breakthrough

2014 marked a turning point. Mendez took on Aladdin in Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic and, in the same year, stepped into the role of Ryuko Matoi for the English dub of Kill la Kill, which aired on Adult Swim’s Toonami block. Ryuko’s raw energy and short temper became a calling card early in her career, before Mendez branched into softer and more varied roles.

Hunter x Hunter and Gon Freecss

In March 2016, Viz Media confirmed Mendez as the English voice of Gon Freecss in the 2011 Hunter x Hunter adaptation. Around the same period she voiced Haruka Tenoh, also known as Sailor Uranus, in the Viz Media dub of Sailor Moon Crystal. Other signature roles followed: Diane in The Seven Deadly Sins, Retsuko in Netflix’s Aggretsuko, Megumin in Konosuba, Raphtalia in The Rising of the Shield Hero and Emma in The Promised Neverland.

Genshin Impact and the Video Game Roster

Mendez’s video game work runs alongside her anime career. She voices Kamisato Ayaka in Genshin Impact, Mash Kyrielight in Fate/Grand Order, Bernadetta von Varley in Fire Emblem: Three Houses and, more recently, Mablu and Miilal Ja in Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail. Her catalog spans fighting games, tactical RPGs and mobile titles.

Writing, Directing and Recent Work

Beyond performing, Mendez adapts scripts for English dubs, including work on Delicious in Dungeon and Sailor Moon, and made her directorial debut on the film I Want to Eat Your Pancreas. Her recent credits include Ukyo Kuonji in the 2024 Ranma 1/2 adaptation, Homare Byobugaura in Tougen Anki and additional voice work on My Hero Academia: All’s Justice and The Legend of Heroes: Trails Beyond the Horizon. She is represented by Atlas Talent Agency.
