Debbie

Debbie’s Role in the Story
Debbie holds her ground for women’s suffrage even as the film around her spirals into monster-movie chaos, giving the story a grounded human thread amid the slapstick. Dort’s arrival throws off his own plans, since he ends up more interested in courting her than finishing his plot to take over Earth. Their courtship plays as the quieter counterpoint to the louder gags involving Minions, conjured monsters, and a fledgling Hollywood studio system. By the film’s end, her conviction has a hand in nudging Dort away from destruction and toward something closer to affection.
Who Voices Debbie in Minions & Monsters?
Zoey Deutch voices Debbie, bringing the same comic timing she showed in Set It Up and Zombieland: Double Tap to this 1920s activist. Deutch has spent recent years splitting her work between live-action and animation, voicing Tech Jacket in the superhero series Invincible and starring in the Netflix series The Politician. Her scenes opposite Jesse Eisenberg’s Dort, the alien who falls for Debbie against his own world-conquering instincts, carry much of the film’s romantic subplot.
