Rago

A gravely wounded black cat with a star shaped mark on its back turns out to be anything but ordinary when Jiro Azuma stops to help it in the woods. That single act of kindness drags the teenage ninja into a war between humans and mononoke, because the cat is actually Rago, an ancient spirit known as the Black Star of Doom.

Rago’s Role and Personality

Centuries of life have left Rago wary of getting close to anyone, and for good reason. He once bonded with a human lord whose ambition, fed by Rago’s power, wiped out an entire clan through endless war. Since then he has kept to a cat’s body and a cat’s distance from people, at least until Jiro’s stubborn compassion gets him fatally impaled while protecting him. Rago repays that debt by fusing with Jiro’s body, saving his life while quietly feeding on his vital energy in the process, a secret that complicates their partnership once Jiro finally learns the truth.

Who Voices Rago in Black Torch?

Keith Silverstein provides Rago’s English voice, bringing the same weary, dangerous edge he lent to Hisoka in Hunter x Hunter and Zhongli in Genshin Impact. In the original Japanese version, Yōji Ueda voices the mononoke, an actor anime fans will recognize as Robert E.O. Speedwagon in JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure and Eisen in Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End.
