SungWon Cho and the Career That Shouldn’t Have Worked

There was no obvious path from singing “Let It Go” in a Goofy voice on Tumblr to voicing the villain Zeus in a video game, landing a deal with Creative Artists Agency, and eventually becoming one of the most sought-after dubbing performers in North American animation. Yet that is more or less the arc of SungWon Cho, the Korean-American actor and YouTuber who operates online as ProZD and built a professional voice career almost entirely on the strength of what looked, from the outside, like a hobby.

Born December 9, 1990, in Rochester, Minnesota, to South Korean parents, Cho grew up in DeWitt, Michigan, and graduated from Michigan State University in 2012 with a degree in Media Information and Technology. The early creative instinct surfaced in high school, where he provided voices for a friend’s radio plays – an unglamorous origin that nonetheless gave him the raw material for everything that followed.

ProZD and the Viral Path Into Professional Work

The Tumblr-to-Vine-to-YouTube pipeline that Cho rode during the 2010s was not a calculated strategy. He posted short comedic sketches, voice impressions, and anime parodies because they suited him. The 2012 Goofy impression on “Let It Go” went sufficiently viral to reach voice director Deven Mack, who reached out and offered Cho an audition for the indie game Apotheon. He won the role of Zeus – the primary antagonist – and his first professional credit was a villain in ancient Greece.

From there, the career moved in widening circles. His Crunchyroll web series Anime Crimes Division, in which he starred as Detective Joe Furuya, earned him a Streamy Award nomination for Best Acting in a Comedy in 2018. Creative Artists Agency signed him in mid-2018, coinciding with his move to Los Angeles. The agency signing formalized what the credits had already suggested: this was a working professional actor, not a content creator who occasionally booked voiceover.

FL4K, Ratatoskr, and the AAA Game Footprint

Two game roles in particular cemented Cho’s standing in the AAA space. In Borderlands 3 (2019), he voiced FL4K, a Beastmaster-class character whose philosophical detachment and bone-dry delivery made the performance immediately recognizable. The character became one of the more discussed in the game’s ensemble, in part because the casting of a Korean-American actor for a role without a specified ethnicity was relatively rare in big-budget game production at the time.

In God of War Ragnarok (2022), Cho played Ratatoskr, the fast-talking squirrel spirit of Norse cosmology. The credit came with an unusual distinction: Cho was also a credited writer on the character, contributing to the dialogue rather than simply performing lines delivered to him. That dual role – performer and co-author – sits apart from most voice credits in games of that scale.

Anime Dubbing and the Dungeon Meshi Breakthrough

Cho’s dubbing resume had been building steadily – Kage in Ranking of Kings earned him a Crunchyroll Anime Award nomination for Best Voice Artist Performance – but the role that pushed him to the widest anime audience was Senshi in Delicious in Dungeon (2024). The dwarf cook is the emotional and comedic engine of the series, a character who requires warmth, physical presence in the voice, and comic timing that lands across very different registers. The performance drew consistent notice from the show’s Western audience, drawing him a second Crunchyroll Anime Award nomination in the category.

His dubbing credits extend across the breadth of Netflix’s and Crunchyroll’s English localization slate, with additional roles in Solo Leveling, Pluto, One Piece (as Cat Viper/Nekomamushi), and Pokemon Horizons, among others. He also appeared in the 2023 Canadian biographical film BlackBerry in a live-action supporting role, and in the 2025 animated film KPop Demon Hunters as Abby Saja.
