Glory

Glory’s Role in Bass X Machina
Glory Reeves is not a passive figure waiting to be rescued; she is the moral anchor of the story, the human weight behind every brutal choice Bass makes in the field. The show’s central tension is built on a cruel irony: the more aggressively Bass fights to protect his family, the more he risks tearing it apart. Glory represents everything the steampunk frontier is trying to consume — warmth, love, and a life worth preserving in a world that runs on iron and violence. Creator LeSean Thomas and executive producer Brian Tyree Henry built this world around that contradiction, making Glory’s presence felt even in the moments she is not on screen.
Janelle Monáe brings Glory Reeves to life and then goes a step further by also performing the series’ theme song, “HONOR KiLLING,” which sets the tone for the entire show. Monáe is no stranger to carrying the emotional core of a story, having delivered a National Board of Review-winning supporting turn as Andi Brand in Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery and earned wide acclaim as NASA mathematician Mary Jackson in Hidden Figures. Her voice carries both the grace and the steel that Glory demands, and the fact that Henry specifically sought her out for the role speaks to how central the character is to the series’ heartbeat.
