Bass X Machina (2026)

Release Date: Nov 3, 2026
Studio: Studio Mir

LeSean Thomas and Studio Mir's Bass X Machina drops on Netflix November 3, 2026 as a six-episode adult animated limited series: a steampunk reimagining of Bass Reeves, the first Black U.S. Deputy Marshal, transplanted into a lawless frontier overrun by outlaws, machines, and things that shouldn't be walking at all. Thomas, who previously created Cannon Busters and Yasuke for Netflix, pushes further here into pulp horror territory without losing the Western grain of the story. Brian Tyree Henry leads the Bass X Machina voice cast as Bass himself and also executive produces, with Janelle Monáe, Tati Gabrielle, and Cree Summer completing a lineup that treats this world as seriously as the premise demands.

Bass X Machina on Netflix: Studio Mir and the LeSean Thomas Steampunk Western

Studio Mir, the South Korean studio behind The Legend of Korra and Netflix’s Devil May Cry, brings a distinct visual weight to Bass X Machina that separates it immediately from most Western animation. LeSean Thomas built the story around a father trying to protect his family in a frontier that has stopped following any recognizable rules: the Interior Ministry is encroaching, machines are everywhere, and the supernatural threat is not metaphorical. Original music from Wondaland’s Roman GianArthur and Nate Wonder means the atmosphere is scored rather than assembled, which for a steampunk Western is exactly the right call.

Bass X Machina Voice Cast: Henry, Monáe, Gabrielle, and Summer

Brian Tyree Henry voices Bass Reeves, and casting him was the kind of decision that shapes what a show becomes. Known for Paper Boi in Atlanta and Miles Morales’ father in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, Henry brings a weathered gravity to characters who carry things they don’t explain. Janelle Monáe plays Glory Reeves and performs the series’ opening song, which tracks: her work in Homecoming showed she holds emotional precision under pressure. Tati Gabrielle takes Dana, continuing her pattern of complex younger women in survival scenarios built across The Last of Us and YOU. Cree Summer voices Ahni. Summer’s range across decades of animation, from Rugrats to Voltron: Legendary Defender, means she can shift register without breaking the room.
