Emerald O’Hanrahan

Emerald O’Hanrahan’s Path From Stage to Studio
The career took root in Cambridgeshire, where a child cast in school and amateur shows played Susan in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and Miranda in The Tempest at the Cambridge Arts Theatre. That early appetite for performance carried through A Levels at Long Road Sixth Form College and into a BA in Acting at Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. Winning the Carleton Hobbs Bursary in 2009 opened the first professional door, leading straight to the BBC Radio Drama Company and dozens of productions within months of graduating.
Emma Grundy and the World of The Archers
Radio became the foundation of a working life. Stepping into the part of Emma Grundy on BBC Radio 4’s The Archers, she has voiced the Ambridge resident across more than fifteen years, shaping a character whose family tangles play out in one of the longest-running serial dramas anywhere. The role demands a performer comfortable building emotion through sound alone, and it kept her at the center of a daily audience that treats Ambridge as a place they know.
Alien: Isolation and Survival Horror
Game work brought a different kind of pressure. For Creative Assembly’s Alien: Isolation, she supplied the voice, motion capture, and likeness of Nina Taylor, a survivor caught aboard a station stalked by something patient and lethal. The performance later resurfaced in the animated digital series that reassembled the game’s cutscenes. Horror suited her instinct for tension, and the part remains one of the most recognized credits in her catalogue.
Victorian London and the Templar Lucy Thorne
A year later came Lucy Thorne in Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate. Set in the grime and gaslight of industrial London, the character moves as a sharp, composed Templar whose menace lives in restraint rather than volume. The role let her trade the warmth of radio drama for something colder and more controlled, a reminder of how far her range stretches between projects.
Cosmic Dread and Tabletop Worlds
Later credits show a taste for darker material and large fictional universes. She lent her voice to Marie Colden in the Lovecraftian mystery Call of Cthulhu, voiced Eldar characters in Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War III, and turned up among the cast of Baldur’s Gate III as a Tadpoled Adventurer. Screen and audio drama run alongside the games, with appearances in Silk, Lewis, Doctors, Father Brown, and Agatha Raisin, plus Big Finish Doctor Who audio stories.
