Director Max

Max’s Role in Minions & Monsters
Panic is his first reaction. Studio heads Frank and Elwood Bright see box office gold in the disruption, though, and Max has little choice but to adapt. He’s drawn as a European auteur type, the kind of meticulous filmmaker who helped shape Hollywood’s silent era, and that background clashes wonderfully with the Minions’ anarchic energy. Sweet-natured Minion James becomes something of a protégé under his direction, chasing a golden-banana version of an Oscar as the two navigate a studio system more interested in spectacle than artistry.
Who Voices Max in Minions & Monsters?
Christoph Waltz brings Max to life in English. He’s a two-time Academy Award winner recognized for Hans Landa in Inglourious Basterds and Dr. King Schultz in Django Unchained, and animation audiences will also know his voice from Count Volpe in Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio and Mandrake in Epic. For the Japanese dub, veteran actor and singer Ken Matsudaira takes on the role, marking his first appearance in the Minions franchise. Matsudaira is widely known across Japan for his enduring hit song “Matsuken Samba II.”
