Toy Story 5 (2026): Pixar’s Screen-Time Reckoning
Andrew Stanton described the film’s central question as an “existential problem”: nobody is really playing with toys anymore. Toy Story 5 builds that anxiety into its plot. Lilypad arrives in Bonnie’s life as a gift, and the toys must confront what it means to stay relevant when technology reshapes playtime. Woody, Buzz, and Jessie have to work out whether they can compete with a device that speaks every language, learns every preference, and never runs out of content. Stanton wrote the screenplay with Kenna Harris, calibrating the story to sit alongside Toy Story 3‘s themes of obsolescence, updated for the screen-time era.
Toy Story 5 Voice Cast: Greta Lee, Conan O’Brien, Craig Robinson and More
The Toy Story 5 voice cast makes its most significant new addition in Greta Lee as Lilypad. Lee earned a Golden Globe nomination for Past Lives and voiced Lyla in both Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and its 2023 sequel, so she brings real dramatic range to what could have been a one-note foil. Conan O’Brien voices SmartyPants, a motion-activated toddler’s potty-training gadget; he previously voiced the Riddler in The LEGO Batman Movie, which shows he can calibrate absurdity for a family audience. Craig Robinson plays Atlas, a GPS hippo toy; Robinson voiced Mr. Shark across The Bad Guys franchise and his comedic timing is well-suited to Pixar’s register. Ernie Hudson steps in as Combat Carl, taking over the role previously voiced by the late Carl Weathers.
