Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Joan Cusack, and Tony Hale reprise their roles as Woody, Buzz Lightyear, Jessie, and Forky, while Anna Faris, Ernie Hudson, and Conan O'Brien join the cast. The plot centers on "Toy meets Tech," with the toys facing their biggest challenge when confronted with electronics and technology that kids are obsessed with today. Anna Faris voices Lilypad, an electronic tablet character, while Ernie Hudson voices Combat Carl (taking over from the late Carl Weathers) and Conan O'Brien voices Smarty Pants. The film features fifty commemorative Buzz Lightyear action figures stuck in toy mode searching for Star Command. Jessie will be the central focus of the story.
