Yeukayi Ushe’s Journey From Stage to Digital Worlds
The story of Yeukayi Ushe – also known professionally as Kayi Ushe – begins not in a recording booth but on the musical theatre stage. A Londoner of Zimbabwean heritage, he cut his teeth on the road, touring Italy in Fame the Musical before formal drama training had even wrapped. His entry into the industry came through open auditions, landing him an agent while university application responses were still pending – a detail he has shared openly as proof that unconventional paths can lead to West End stages.
West End Foundations and the Lyceum Breakthrough
Several years of UK tours and West End ensemble work built the foundation. Credits at the Shaftesbury Theatre in Motown the Musical, the Prince of Wales Theatre in The Book of Mormon, and roles in Kinky Boots and Avenue Q across UK touring circuits gave Ushe a wide-ranging stage vocabulary. The turning point came in July 2021 when he stepped into the role of Simba for the West End revival of Disney’s The Lion King at the Lyceum Theatre – a production that had been seen by over 16 million people in London alone. He has spoken on record about the emotional weight of that casting, describing his reaction as being floored upon receiving the call from his agent.
Genie, Burr, and the Stage Career Expanding
From Simba, Ushe took on another iconic Disney role – the Genie – in the UK and Ireland tour of Disney’s Aladdin, which ran through 2023 and 2024. By 2026, his stage career reached a new landmark with the West End production of Hamilton at the Victoria Palace Theatre, where he stepped into the dual role of Marquis de Lafayette and Thomas Jefferson before transitioning to take on Aaron Burr – one of the most demanding leading roles in contemporary musical theatre.
Elden Ring and the Shadow of the Erdtree
Parallel to his stage work, Ushe has built a voice acting profile in the games industry. His most noted gaming credit to date is the Fire Knight in FromSoftware’s Elden Ring – specifically in the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion (2024). Represented on the voice side by Be Heard Voices, his agency profile describes his natural accents as African and London, with a vocal range covering 30s voice age, character work, and the ability to move between light and dark registers. His game reel work confirmed an interest in action and genre projects well before his larger credits came through.
Star Wars Outlaws and a Galaxy of New Roles
The release of Ubisoft Massive’s Star Wars Outlaws in August 2024 marked Ushe’s first appearance in a major AAA Star Wars title. While his specific character name in the production is not listed in publicly available cast records beyond his confirmed presence in the credits, his inclusion in the full cast listing alongside a large ensemble of UK and international voice performers puts him inside one of the highest-profile game releases of that year. The 2025 animated series Stan Can added further screen voice work to his credits, alongside co-stars Lucy Montgomery and Tyger Drew-Honey.
