Oliver Milburn

Oliver Milburn’s Path from British TV to the Open Seas of Assassin’s Creed
Growing up in Dorset and educated at Eton College, Oliver Milburn bypassed drama school entirely and stepped straight into television, landing a role in the long-running soap opera Families in 1992. The unconventional entry point set the tone for a career built on instinct rather than institutional training. Through the 1990s and into the 2000s, he accumulated a steady stream of credits across British drama – David Copperfield (1999), The Forsyte Saga (2002), and the cult hospital sitcom Green Wing (2004) among them.
The Descent and a Horror Milestone
Neil Marshall’s 2005 cave-diving horror The Descent gave Milburn one of his most recognizable screen roles, playing Paul – the estranged husband whose absence drives the film’s emotional undercurrent before the terror begins. The film went on to become a landmark of British horror, and Milburn’s opening act performance remains integral to its storytelling architecture.
Bartholomew Roberts and Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag
In 2013, Milburn brought his theatrical grounding into the recording booth for Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, voicing two characters: the historical pirate Bartholomew Roberts and a secondary character named John. Roberts – known in-game as “Black Bart” and reimagined as a mystical Sage with ties to the First Civilization – is one of the game’s most layered antagonists. Milburn’s performance gave the character a cold, measured authority that fit the game’s blend of historical piracy and ancient conspiracy.
The Royals and Later Career
From 2015, Milburn joined the cast of E!’s primetime drama The Royals as Ted Pryce, the head of royal security, appearing across its first two series. Further television work included Mistresses, Coronation Street, and a supporting role in The Crown as Chris Patten. In parallel, he co-founded two acclaimed London restaurants – Kitty Fisher’s in Shepherd Market and Cora Pearl in Covent Garden – establishing a second career that has drawn coverage from the Wall Street Journal and Forbes.
