Kōji Totani

Birth Date: 12/07/1948

Kōji Totani (1948-2006) was a Japanese seiyū from Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture who worked at Aoni Production. Best known for Revolver Ocelot in Metal Gear Solid, Jagi in Fist of the North Star, and Capricorn Shura in Saint Seiya. His nickname was "Totani-chan." He died from acute heart failure at age 57, leaving his roles to be taken over by other voice actors. His son Kimito Totani became actor Kamen Rider Diend.

The Hitman Series and Revolutionary Game Voice Work

Totani’s most iconic role came as Revolver Ocelot in Metal Gear Solid (1998) and Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty (2001), delivering the complex triple-agent character’s gravel Japanese voice that defined the character for generations of gamers. His performance brought Ocelot’s spinning-gun charisma and mysterious duplicity to life, creating a benchmark for video game voice acting that English dub actor Patric Zimmerman later matched. This role remains his most celebrated contribution to gaming history.
