Josh Bowman’s Transition from Screen to the World of Voice Acting
Best known for his long run on primetime television, Josh Bowman carved a distinct space in video game voice acting by taking on one of Final Fantasy’s most calculating antagonists. His portrayal of Rufus Shinra across the Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy brought a cold, calculated authority to the character that matched the visual redesign of the modern games.
Most Known Roles of Josh Bowman
- Rufus Shinra – Final Fantasy VII Remake (2020)
Rufus Shinra – Final Fantasy VII: The First Soldier (2021)
Rufus Shinra – Final Fantasy VII Rebirth (2024)
Daniel Grayson – Revenge (TV Series, 2011-2015)

The Final Fantasy VII Trilogy and Rufus Shinra
Bowman’s voice work as Rufus Shinra spans the entire arc of Square Enix’s reimagining of the classic RPG. He first debuted the role in Final Fantasy VII Remake in 2020, then reprised it in the mobile title Final Fantasy VII: The First Soldier in 2021, and returned again for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth in 2024. The character – the ruthless president of the Shinra Electric Power Company – demands a performance that balances menace with a veneer of composed sophistication, something Bowman delivers with his distinctively clipped British delivery.

Career Before the Booth
Born Joshua Tobias Bowman on March 4, 1988, in Windsor and Maidenhead, Berkshire, England, he first gained wide attention as Daniel Grayson in the ABC drama Revenge, a role he held for 77 episodes across four seasons. Before landing in American television, he trained on British productions including Holby City, and was a onetime professional rugby player before pivoting fully to acting. His stage presence and physicality from those earlier years feed directly into the authority he brings to vocal performances.
