Jolene Kim’s Journey from Hawaii to the Heart of Asian Storytelling
From the shores of Hilo, Hawaii, Jolene Kim carved out a career that stretches across stage, screen, and the dubbing booth with equal conviction. Of Japanese, Korean, Filipino, and Chinese heritage, she trained under two of the most demanding names in the craft – Larry Moss, whose alumni include Helen Hunt and Hilary Swank, and Philippe Gaulier, the Parisian master clown behind the physical comedy of Emma Thompson and Sacha Baron Cohen. That dual grounding in emotional depth and physical play gave Kim an unusual range as a performer.
Her on-screen work spans NBC’s Days of Our Lives, Grey’s Anatomy, NCIS: Los Angeles, and Apple TV+’s Shrinking. Behind the microphone, she voiced Grandma in Nickelodeon’s animated series Glitch Techs and has since become a trusted fixture in English-language dubbing of high-profile Asian productions.
The Dubbing Work That Defined a New Phase
Starting in 2023, Kim’s voice work accelerated sharply. She took on English dub roles across a string of acclaimed Korean and Japanese titles on major streaming platforms – including Ooku: The Inner Chambers, Mask Girl, Queenmaker, and Race. The momentum continued into 2024 with Tokyo Swindlers, Mission: Cross, House of Ninjas, and Uprising, adding Slitterhead (as Michelle) to her gaming credits the same year.
Ghost of Yotei and the Class of 2025
Among Kim’s 2025 credits, her role in Sucker Punch’s Ghost of Yotei – the standalone sequel to Ghost of Tsushima – places her alongside one of the most acclaimed Japanese-action game casts assembled in recent years. The same year brought Chung-Su across 14 episodes of When Life Gives You Tangerines, the Netflix Korean drama that won Best Drama at the 61st Baeksang Arts Awards and was named Time magazine’s best Korean drama of 2025. Additional 2025 credits include Newtopia (8 episodes), Asura (7 episodes as Makiko), Bullet Train Explosion (as Yuko Kagami), and Shinobu in Miraculous World: Tokyo Stellar Force.
