Jen Cohn’s Rise From New York to Overwatch’s Iconic Pharah

Growing up in New Jersey with a mother who worked as a children’s accessory designer, Jen Cohn came to performance through a household that valued craft and creativity. She earned her BFA from Emerson College, where she trained in acting and developed the wide accent range French, Italian, Greek, Russian, multiple Southern and Spanish dialects, Hebrew, multiple British that would define her career in character voice work. Her professional debut arrived in 2000 on MTV’s Celebrity Deathmatch, where she voiced Pamela Anderson Lee on the animated parody series, a leftfield entry point that nonetheless put her inside a recording booth early.

What followed was years of building a broad, quietly impressive resume across animation, games, and commercials voicing multiple roles across PBS’s WordGirl, contributing characters to Red Dead Redemption, and recording extensive additional voices for the Grand Theft Auto series. These weren’t headlining credits, but they built the precision and instinct that voice casting directors notice.

Avatar: The Last Airbender and the Emotional Weight of Ursa

Before Overwatch made her name recognizable to millions, Cohn brought one of Avatar: The Last Airbender’s most emotionally charged presences to life. Her portrayal of Ursa mother to Zuko and Azula, the ghostly maternal figure at the center of the Fire Nation family’s tragedy demanded restraint and tenderness in equal measure. She appeared across three episodes, and the character’s impact on the series’ emotional core extended far beyond that limited screen time. It remains one of the more quietly affecting performances in the Avatar canon.

Overwatch and the Line That Defined a Generation of Gamers

When Blizzard Entertainment launched Overwatch in May 2016, Cohn was already locked in as Fareeha “Pharah” Amari the Egyptian soldier in a Raptora combat suit whose rocket launching authority became one of the game’s most recognizable sounds. The role came to her after she submitted an audition playing Pharah as a villain, a choice that apparently revealed something about the character’s edge that stuck. The line “Justice rains from above” crossed from game audio into meme, fan art, and competitive gaming culture.

She reprised the role in Overwatch 2 in 2022, where Pharah received a new visual redesign and an expanded narrative arc. Cohn has remained one of the longer tenured original cast members across both installments. Beyond the main game, she voiced multiple characters in Star Wars: The Old Republic most notably Lord Zash, one of the Sith Inquisitor storyline’s central antagonists and contributed Hunt-Captain Korayn to World of Warcraft: Shadowlands.

Beyond the Booth

Cohn has worn multiple professional hats alongside her voice work. She served as executive producer on the indie film Big Fan and as supervising producer across episodes of the television series Southern at Heart. Her fashion consulting work trend scouting across New York and Paris Fashion Weeks, branding consultation, and copywriting runs parallel to the voice career rather than beneath it. She also appeared on screen in the Hulu series Welcome to Chippendales and in the film Cruise. The range speaks to someone who has never treated any single identity as the whole picture.
