Dave Fennoy

Dave Fennoy’s Journey from the Stage to the Booth
The road to becoming one of Los Angeles’ most recognized voice talents ran through an unlikely sequence of stops. A child actor at Cleveland’s Karamu House community theater, Dave Fennoy spent his formative years on stage before pivoting entirely. He left Macalester College mid-enrollment to tour as a professional musician, eventually completing a degree in jazz studies at Howard University. It was only after relocating to the San Francisco Bay Area and working as a radio DJ that a colleague urged him to pursue voiceover work. A demo tape landed him with talent agent Joan Spangler, and his first booking – a California Lottery commercial – pointed toward the career ahead.
Active in Los Angeles since 1990, Fennoy built his reputation across commercials, narration, network promos, and animation before the video game industry made him a household name among players. IMDb has named him one of the 20 best male game voices of all time.
Lee Everett and the Weight of The Walking Dead
When Telltale Games released the first episode of The Walking Dead in 2012, the studio was betting heavily on character-driven narrative – and the performance anchoring it was Fennoy’s. Lee Everett, a convicted man given a second chance at purpose in the middle of a zombie apocalypse, required an actor capable of layering guilt, grief, protectiveness, and moral resolve into a single voice. Fennoy delivered all of it. The game won multiple Game of the Year awards and earned Fennoy a BAFTA nomination for Best Performer, one of the first times a voice actor received that level of recognition from the prestigious film and television academy.
The role established a template for what emotionally grounded video game performance could be – and Fennoy’s specific contribution, the warmth beneath the weight of Lee’s circumstances, became the defining quality that players cited when discussing what made the game hit as hard as it did.
Rodin, Lucius Fox, and a Career Defined by Range
Outside of Lee Everett, Fennoy’s catalog spans tones that rarely overlap. Rodin, the weapons dealer in PlatinumGames’ Bayonetta franchise beginning in 2009, gave him room to be theatrical and larger-than-life – a charismatic underworld figure dripping with bravado. The role recurred across the series and into Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, where Fennoy reprised the character for a new audience.
His casting as Lucius Fox across the Batman Arkham series and the Telltale Batman titles brought a completely different register: measured, authoritative, and quietly indispensable. Fennoy played Fox in Batman: Arkham Knight, Batman: The Telltale Series, Batman: The Enemy Within, and more recently in Batman: Arkham Shadow, making him the definitive Fox voice across an entire era of Batman game adaptations.
In animation, Pong Krell in Star Wars: The Clone Wars showed his capacity for antagonists with genuine menace. In Afterparty (2019), he played Satan himself – and managed to make the character charming. His most recent major credits include work in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth (2024), Daemon X Machina: Titanic Scion (2025), and Yakuza Kiwami 3 & Dark Ties (2026).
Broadcasting, Commercials, and the Hulu Voice
For years, millions of people heard Fennoy’s voice without ever knowing his name. Beginning in 2008, he became the official announcer voice for Hulu, delivering the streaming platform’s five-second intro before video content. That gig, combined with promo work for ABC, Fox, CBS, Showtime, ESPN, and Disney Channel, plus spokesvoice campaigns for Lexus, McDonald’s, Toyota, and KFC, made his voice one of the most commercially embedded in American media – even as gaming built his name recognition.
Teaching the Next Generation
Fennoy has converted decades of practical experience into formal instruction. He runs workshops across the United States and internationally, teaches webinars, and offers private coaching from his home studio. His focus areas include commercial voiceover, narration, and video game performance specifically. A weekly Facebook Live broadcast called “Ask Dave Fennoy Anything” extends that access further, drawing guests from across the voice acting community. He is also featured in Joan Baker’s industry book “Secrets of Voiceover Success,” cementing his standing not just as a practitioner but as a figure whose methods are considered worth studying.
