Lizard

Few villains in Marvel's Spider-Man 2 carry as much emotional weight as Dr. Curt Connors, the tragic scientist whose desperate quest to restore his lost arm turned him into one of New York's most fearsome predators. Kraven the Hunter's arrival in the city forces Peter Parker and Miles Morales into a deadly race to protect a man who is, at his core, a victim of his own brilliance.

The Lizard’s Role in the Story

In Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Connors becomes entangled in two dangerous rivalries at once. Peter needs him to help find a cure for Harry Osborn, but Kraven the Hunter has marked the Lizard as his ultimate prey, turning Connors into a hunted wild card. It’s this layered threat that makes his arc stand out: Peter fights not just to stop the Lizard, but to save the man inside the monster.

Lizard’s Design and Abilities

Insomniac engineered two distinct forms for the Lizard, and the contrast is deliberate. The first is a classic, human-sized version still dressed in a tattered lab coat, capable of speech and communication with Peter. The second is a towering 10-foot beast stripped of all humanity, growing to massive size with enhanced strength, speed, scaled armor, an accelerated healing factor, and razor-sharp claws for scaling buildings. The PS5’s muscle simulation tech even lets him shed his skin mid-fight, scattering scales onto the Spider-Men as a genuinely unsettling effect.

Senior art director Jacinda Chew led research into real-life reptile anatomy, studying prehistoric lizard species to give the creature a more imposing, ancient look. The team crafted eyes that react dynamically to light, pupils narrowing or widening like a true predator’s, reinforcing how far Connors has drifted from his human self.

Who Voices the Lizard in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2?

Both Dr. Curt Connors and the Lizard are voiced by Mark Whitten. Whitten is a prolific voice actor also known for roles in other major titles, bringing a dual range to the character, shifting from the articulate, guilt-ridden scientist to the guttural roars of the fully transformed beast. There is no separate Japanese voice cast, as the Insomniac Games Spider-Man series is a PlayStation-exclusive Western production.
