Edward Kenway

Swansea born and Bristol trained before the sea ever called him, Edward Kenway trades an ordinary life for a captain's flag in Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced, Ubisoft's ground-up remake of the 2013 original. Commanding the Jackdaw through the Caribbean's Golden Age of Piracy between 1715 and 1722, he gets pulled into the long war between Assassins and Templars while chasing a fortune he thinks will finally be enough.

Edward’s Journey Through Greed and Glory

He starts out chasing a working man’s dream: enough gold to buy his wife Caroline a better life back home. That drive curdles into something colder once real money is within reach, and Resynced leans further into the greed simmering under his charm with a new scene written between Edward and Caroline. Blackbeard and Stede Bonnet get expanded arcs alongside him this time, and three new officers sign onto the Jackdaw’s crew as part of the main story. Long before he becomes known as the grandfather of Assassin’s Creed III’s Connor, this version of him is still the reckless privateer mistaking fame for meaning.

Who Voices Edward Kenway in Black Flag Resynced?

Matt Ryan steps back into Edward’s boots for the remake, having originated the role in 2013 and returned to record new motion capture and freshly written dialogue for Resynced. Welsh born like his character, Ryan is best known outside gaming for playing John Constantine across NBC’s Constantine and the Arrowverse, and for playing Mick Rawson on Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior. Japanese players will hear a new voice this time, as Eiji Hanawa takes over the role from original actor Kenjiro Tsuda, who voiced Edward throughout the 2013 release.
