Ellen Ripley

Video Game: Alien: Isolation

Long before her daughter Amanda set foot aboard Sevastopol Station, the warrant officer who survived the Nostromo had already become the franchise's beating heart. In Alien: Isolation, Ellen Ripley lives at the edges of the story, a fragmented voice log and the playable star of two DLC missions that rebuild the 1979 film's final hour of terror.

Ellen Ripley’s Role in Alien: Isolation

While Amanda scours a decaying space station for answers about her mother’s disappearance, Ellen’s recovered black box recording shadows the entire campaign. The Crew Expendable and Last Survivor add-ons hand players direct control of her, dropping them into the crew’s airlock gambit and the white-knuckle sprint to the Narcissus shuttle. Quick-thinking, blunt, and openly distrustful of Weyland-Yutani’s corporate doublespeak, she confronts the xenomorph with the same grim resourcefulness that defined Ridley Scott’s original. Owning either pack also unlocks her in the game’s Survivor Mode challenges.

Who Voices Ellen Ripley in Alien: Isolation?

Sigourney Weaver stepped back into the role she originated, recording brand-new dialogue 35 years after first playing the character on screen. It marked her return to Ripley for the first time in roughly 17 years, and she carried over the same steel fans recognize from Aliens, alongside her work as Dr. Grace Augustine in Avatar and Dana Barrett in Ghostbusters. Several original cast members reunited with her for the DLC, including Tom Skerritt as Dallas and Veronica Cartwright as Lambert.
