Android 8

A remote-controlled bomb buried inside his chest used to be the only thing keeping him in line for the Red Ribbon Army. By the time Goku stumbles into the East Ravine years later, that threat is long gone, and what's left is an old friend who never forgot the boy who set him free.

Android 8’s Story Role in Kakarot

Dr. Gero built him as the eighth in his android line, designed to guard Muscle Tower and crush anyone who got in the Red Ribbon Army’s way. The plan fell apart the moment his gentle nature kicked in. Towering and blue-haired, with a build clearly borrowed from old Frankenstein’s monster imagery, he earned the nickname Eighter, or Hacchan, from Goku himself and never let it go. In Kakarot, he resurfaces during the Saiyan Saga’s East Ravine segment, drawn there by reports of rogue RR Mech Soldiers, and recognizing his now grown-up friend triggers the Sub Story “Gentle Giant,” where the game tags him as the Kindhearted Android.

Who Voices Android 8 in Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot?

Mike McFarland handles the English dub, a Funimation mainstay better known for originating Master Roshi and Yajirobe across the Dragon Ball franchise, alongside Jean Havoc in Fullmetal Alchemist and Buggy the Clown in One Piece. Shōzō Iizuka provided the Japanese performance, the same actor behind the brutal Saiyan general Nappa in Dragon Ball Z and Psycho Mantis in the Metal Gear Solid games, a reminder of just how far his range stretched beyond one gentle android.
