Few careers in American anime dubbing have maintained the same depth and consistency as Grant George’s. Working out of Los Angeles since the mid-1990s, he built his reputation through Bang Zoom! Entertainment, Studiopolis, SDI Media, NYAV Post, Magnitude 8 Post, and VSI Los Angeles – a roster of studios that covers the most significant English-language anime localization pipelines in the industry. Over the full run of the original series from 2004 to 2012, George sustained Kira’s emotional trajectory without overplaying it, letting the character’s exhaustion accumulate across hundreds of episodes. It is precisely the kind of sustained, low-key performance that rarely gets celebrated but defines whether an anime dub holds up.

In Fate/Zero, he voiced Lancer – Diarmuid Ua Duibhne – a character defined by cursed beauty and tragic obligation. The role required a register of noble sincerity that never tipped into naivety, and George delivered it against a cast including Jamieson Price and Matthew Mercer. The Fate series is unforgiving to dubbed performances because the source material’s fans are deeply invested in tone, and George’s Lancer became a widely cited example of English dubbing that respected its subject.

The Warrior of Light and the Dissidia Final Fantasy Legacy

George’s longest-running single-character commitment in video games is arguably the Warrior of Light across the Dissidia Final Fantasy series. From the original Dissidia in 2008 through Dissidia 012, Dissidia Final Fantasy NT, and Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin in 2022, he voiced a character who began as the archetypal silent hero of the original 1987 game and gained a full voiced presence in the crossover fighting titles. The Warrior’s stoic resolve required George to find heroism without bravado – no easy task when the character exists primarily as a symbol. That he returned to the role across fourteen years and multiple game engines says something about both the consistency of the performance and Square Enix’s trust in it.

Persona, Danganronpa, and the RPG Character Specialist

Among his game credits, two roles stand out for their emotional complexity. Shinjiro Aragaki in Persona 3 is a former SEES member hiding a terminal secret, and the performance George gave the character – gruff, self-isolating, but with grief close to the surface – became one of the most-discussed dubbed performances in the series. The character’s fate hit harder for it. In Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony, George voiced Shuichi Saihara, the player-proxy protagonist whose arc runs the full length of a tightly plotted mystery. Two very different performances – one defined by withheld emotion, the other by gradual revelation – that show the range operating inside a similar character type.

The Soulcalibur series gave him Kilik across multiple entries, and Suigetsu Hozuki in Naruto: Shippuden kept him connected to the franchise he helped build in the early 2000s. Tokyo Revengers added Takashi Mitsuya to his recent credits, and the Disgaea series gave him recurring comedic work as Vyers and Axel – a reminder that the baritone registers well in absurdist contexts too.

Beyond the Booth – Voice Direction and the Dynamic Duo

Since the early 2010s, George and his wife, voice actress Jessica Gee-George, have operated as a professional partnership that extends well beyond performance. Together they run LoopingLA, a company handling ADR and loop group casting and direction for feature films and television series. The scope of that work – covering hundreds of productions – places the Georges at the production infrastructure level of the industry, not just its talent pool. George also works as a voice director in his own right, giving him a perspective on casting and script adaptation that feeds back into his own performance work.
