Abby Trott and the Road from Puppetry to Anime’s Biggest Stages

The path to becoming one of Los Angeles’s busiest voice actresses ran through Tokyo puppet theaters and a Bang Zoom! Entertainment online contest. After graduating from Attleboro High School in 2004, Trott moved to Japan under the JET Program, where she spent two years performing in puppet shows and learning the shakuhachi flute. Back in New York City, she entered Bang Zoom!’s open casting competition – and won. That victory sent her west to Los Angeles, where her debut credit arrived in 2013 with Hunter x Hunter: Phantom Rouge. Bilingual in English and Japanese and trained as an actor at Brandeis University, she arrived in the industry with an unusual depth of cultural fluency.

Nezuko Kamado and the Demon Slayer Phenomenon

No role has defined Trott’s career more completely than Nezuko Kamado in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. Taking on the demon-transformed younger sister of protagonist Tanjiro when the English dub launched in 2019, the challenge was inherently physical – Nezuko spends the majority of the series gagged, communicating exclusively through body language, grunts, and the occasional roar. Trott rendered that silence into something fully felt, building an emotional performance out of breath work and vocal texture rather than dialogue. The role ran across every season and film through the Infinity Castle theatrical trilogy in 2025, earning Trott a nomination at the 8th Crunchyroll Anime Awards for Best Voice Artist Performance (English).

Dandadan, Marvel Rivals, and the Expansion Into New Genres

Alongside her ongoing Demon Slayer commitments, Trott landed the lead English role of Momo Ayase in the Netflix supernatural action series Dandadan when it debuted in 2024. Where Nezuko demanded restraint, Momo required pure combustion – a high-school student thrust into a world of aliens, ghosts, and psychic battles who never stops moving. Season 2 followed in July 2025. In the games space, her credits extended significantly when Marvel Rivals cast her as both Magik and Lady Loki, while Infinity Nikki brought her in as the lead Nikki – a fashion-driven adventure game with a global fanbase. The breadth across genres from fighting games to action RPGs to narrative adventures underscores the range she has built since her Los Angeles debut.

Fire Emblem, Phoenix Wright, and the JRPG Catalogue

Long before mainstream recognition through Demon Slayer, Trott was accumulating a substantial JRPG résumé. Her portrayal of Maya Fey in Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Spirit of Justice in 2016 reintroduced one of the series’ most beloved supporting characters to a new generation. Annette in Fire Emblem: Three Houses followed in 2019, giving her a character with genuine emotional stakes within a sprawling strategic narrative. Tae Takemi in Persona 5 Royal – the enigmatic doctor of Yongen-Jaya – came the same year, marking a notably different register: low, sardonic, layered. Pod 153 in NieR: Automata added a mechanical performance to the list. Trott also voiced Gwen at League of Legends’ launch of that champion in 2021, a character whose entire mythological identity centered on themes of loss and rebirth.

Lifelight and the Crossover Into Gaming Musicality

In 2018, Nintendo needed an English vocal performance for “Lifelight,” the main theme of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Trott delivered a performance that traveled across all international versions of the game and became one of gaming’s most widely heard theme songs of that generation. It was a reminder that her Brandeis training in acting fused naturally with genuine musicality – an asset that has also surfaced in character work requiring tonal qualities beyond standard dialogue delivery.
