Dee Bradley Baker’s Journey From Stage to Studio
Growing up in Greeley, Colorado after an Indiana birth, Baker spent his childhood performing in musicals, operas and stand-up long before microphones entered the picture. A philosophy degree from Colorado College led him toward theater and comedy, and by the mid-1990s Los Angeles studios had noticed his knack for character work. His breakout arrived as Olmec on “Legends of the Hidden Temple,” followed swiftly by Daffy Duck and the Tasmanian Devil in “Space Jam.”
Nickelodeon and the SpongeBob Era
Baker became a fixture of Nickelodeon’s animation slate almost immediately, landing Numbuh Four in “Codename: Kids Next Door” and a rotating cast of creatures in “The Wild Thornberrys.” His work on “SpongeBob SquarePants” spans decades, voicing Perch Perkins, Squilliam Fancyson and countless one-off characters, a run that continues into 2025’s “SpongeBob SquarePants: Titans of the Tide.”
Captain Rex and the Clone Army
Star Wars fandom knows him best as Captain Rex, a role that expanded into voicing nearly every clone trooper across “The Clone Wars,” “Rebels,” “The Bad Batch” and beyond. Directors kept calling him back for the franchise’s newest chapters, including 2026’s “Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord.”
Creature Sounds and Game Worlds
Appa and Momo’s grunts and chirps in “Avatar: The Last Airbender” showcased a specialty in animal vocalization that carried into “Overwatch,” where he voices Hammond, and “Destiny,” home to Variks. Klaus Heissler on “American Dad!” earned him an Emmy nomination, and film work includes Sebastian the rat in “The Suicide Squad” and Eagly in “Peacemaker.”
