Margot

Margot’s Role and Significance in Steps

While the spotlight falls on her sister Lilith’s chaotic adventure, Margot quietly carries the film’s emotional weight. The filmmakers behind Steps describe her as the movie’s heart and moral compass, a stepsister whose warmth and desire to belong make her instantly endearing. Her arc takes a spectacularly literal turn when Lilith accidentally turns her into a frog during the Royal Ball disaster, yet even in her transformed state, Margot’s bouncing, spirited personality refuses to disappear. The animators made a point of preserving her energy through her frog design, right down to her signature hair buns reinterpreted as wide, expressive eyes, ensuring her soul comes through every leap.

Stephanie Hsu: The Voice Behind Margot in Steps

Margot is voiced by Stephanie Hsu, who broke out in a major way with her magnetic dual performance in Everything Everywhere All at Once and further proved her range lending her voice to The Wild Robot. Hsu brings the same emotional depth and playful spontaneity that define her best live-action work directly into Margot, grounding the character’s warmth in a way that makes her transformation from stepsister to frog feel genuinely affecting rather than just a plot device.
