Andrew James Spooner’s Career Across Stage, Screen, and Studio

Over 25 years of work across puppetry, performance, and the recording booth have shaped Andrew James Spooner into one of the UK’s most adaptable character actors. Born on April 28, 1971, he trained at the Guildford School of Acting before being introduced to the world of puppetry through a workshop at Jim Henson’s Creature Shop, led by Nigel Plaskitt, Rob Tygner, and Kevin Clash. That single workshop set the course of much of his early career.

The Muppets and Jim Henson’s World

His on-screen puppetry work for the Jim Henson Company spans several landmark productions. He performed on Muppet Treasure Island (1996), Jim Henson’s Animal Show, The Hoobs, Muppets Most Wanted (2014), and The Furchester Hotel, where he played Furgus Fuzz. He also worked on a number of commercials for Jim Henson’s Creature Shop, and appeared in 101 Dalmatians and That Puppet Game Show.

Video Games and Audio Drama

His game credits include Yellow Wind Sage and Venom Daoist in Black Myth: Wukong, BOMB in Angry Birds: Journey, and TUPAC in an anime short for Genshin Impact. He voiced additional roles in Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla, The Great Ace Attorney 2: Resolve, Lord of the Rings: Gollum, and Eriksholm: The Stolen Dream. On the audio drama front, he played Panpipe, Whydini, and Ragnarok God in Big Finish’s The Psychic Circus (Doctor Who), voiced roles in Star Cops for Big Finish, and appeared in Audible’s ensemble production of George Orwell’s 1984, starring Andrew Garfield and Tom Hardy.

Screen Acting and Voice Direction

Beyond the booth, Spooner appeared as Flat Alastair in Mackenzie Crook’s Worzel Gummidge for the BBC, and as Derek Steps in the Channel 4 sitcom Lee and Dean. In April 2026, he announced a new role as a voice director for video games at Side Audio, marking a significant shift in his career trajectory. He is represented for voice work by Shining Voices and for acting and puppetry by Carey Dodd Associates.
