Kenji Nojima

Born in Suginami, Tokyo on March 16, 1976, Kenji Nojima grew up in Oita, Kyushu, before returning to Tokyo to train at Aoni Jyuku and join Aoni Production. Coming from a family of voice actors - his father Akio and brother Hirofumi both work in the field - he made his debut in the mid-1990s. Best known for Mamoru Chiba in Sailor Moon Crystal, Yuji Kaido in Blue Gender, and Nobuchika Ginoza in Psycho-Pass.

Family Roots in Voice Acting

Nojima comes from a notable voice acting family. His father, Akio Nojima, is also a voice actor, as is his older brother Hirofumi Nojima. He is married to fellow voice actor Chie Sawaguchi, and the couple has a daughter and a son. Outside of work, he plays the drums and the sanshin, a traditional Okinawan string instrument.

A Career That Started Late

Before pursuing voice acting professionally, Nojima spent part of his early adulthood working in agriculture – an unusual background for someone who would go on to voice iconic characters. He eventually followed his family’s path and graduated from Aoni Jyuku, the training school run by his agency, Aoni Production. His debut came in the mid-1990s, and his first major breakout role was Spark in Record of Lodoss War: Chronicles of the Heroic Knight.

Dubbing and Ongoing Projects

Nojima has also built a substantial dubbing career, lending his voice to actors such as Tom Welling (Clark Kent in Smallville) and Nicholas Hoult in the Japanese release of The Favourite. His more recent credits include Dr. Xeno in Dr. Stone (2025) and Fissha Sukai in the long-running series Yu-Gi-Oh!: Go Rush!!. This consistency across decades reflects a steady demand for his distinctive vocal range in both original productions and dubbed content.
