Sasaki Ganryu

History's most legendary swordsman duel gets a supernatural reinvention in Capcom's dark fantasy epic, and Sasaki Ganryu stands at the very heart of it. Equal parts rival, mirror, and menace to protagonist Miyamoto Musashi, Ganryu is the kind of antagonist whose every appearance reshapes the stakes.

Sasaki Ganryu’s Role and Personality in Onimusha: Way of the Sword

Also known by his historical name Kojiro Sasaki, Ganryu carries the weight of legend into every encounter in Edo-period Kyoto. Where Musashi fights with rugged instinct and dual blades, Ganryu counters with refined, surgical precision, his fighting style a masterclass in reach and calculation. His signature Tsubame Gaeshi, the Swallow Reversal, is a deceptively swift technique capable of catching even battle-hardened warriors off guard. Beneath the polished technique lies a consuming obsession: Ganryu wields his own Oni Gauntlet, drawing on the same dark power as his rival, and as the story progresses his fixation on surpassing Musashi pulls him further into the supernatural forces corrupting Kyoto. Arrogant in bearing yet undeniably skilled, he functions as the shadow to Musashi’s light, a constant reminder that the line between warrior and monster is thinner than any blade.

Who Voices Sasaki Ganryu in Onimusha: Way of the Sword?

Tashinga Bepete delivers the English voice of Sasaki Ganryu. A Mountview-trained actor born in Harare and based in London, Bepete has built a versatile screen and voice career, with television credits including Sex Education and Red Rose, alongside stage work in the West End production of Dear England. His ability to project cold intensity and coiled menace makes him a compelling fit for Ganryu’s razor-edged persona. On the Japanese side, Nobuhiko Okamoto steps into the role, bringing the same fierce competitive energy he channeled into Katsuki Bakugo in My Hero Academia and Rin Okumura in Blue Exorcist. A two-time Seiyu Award winner, Okamoto’s reputation for explosive, high-pressure performances translates naturally to a character defined by ruthless ambition and fated rivalry.
