Mikkelsen’s Career
His film debut came that same year as a low-level drug dealer in Nicolas Winding Refn’s Pusher, a role that launched him into Danish cult-film territory. International audiences caught up a decade later when he played Le Chiffre, the calculating villain bleeding from the eye in 2006’s Casino Royale. From there came a string of internationally recognized roles: Dr. Hannibal Lecter in NBC’s Hannibal, Kaecilius in Marvel’s Doctor Strange, Galen Erso in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, and Jürgen Voller in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. His 2012 performance as Lucas in The Hunt won him the Best Actor award at Cannes, and 2020’s Another Round took home the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film.
