LEGO Frozen: Operation Puffins Voice Cast & Characters

So Disney’s doing another LEGO special, this time with Frozen, and here’s the wild part—they actually got the original cast back. Like, the ACTUAL original cast. Idina Menzel, Kristen Bell, Jonathan Groff, Josh Gad… they’re all here for LEGO Frozen: Operation Puffins, which is honestly kind of a big deal for a LEGO special.

Let’s break down who’s voicing who and why this casting is actually pretty cool.

The Main Cast Returns (Yes, Really)

Elsa – Idina Menzel

Okay so Idina Menzel is back as Elsa, which is huge. Menzel originated the role in the first Frozen movie back in 2013 (and yeah, you know the song, everyone knows the song). She’s a Broadway legend, Wicked, Rent, If/Then, and bringing her back for a LEGO special shows Disney’s actually investing in this thing. Even in brick form, Elsa needs that powerful presence, and Menzel’s got it. Fun fact: she’s one of the few Disney voice actors who’s also a major Broadway star, which makes sense given how much singing Elsa does.

Anna – Kristen Bell

Kristen Bell’s returning as Anna too, and honestly this makes the special way more exciting? Bell’s been Anna since the beginning, and she brings this infectious optimism and energy that makes Anna work. You probably know her from The Good Place or Veronica Mars or literally a million other things at this point, the woman works constantly. Having her back means we’re getting the real Anna personality, not just a soundalike trying to capture Bell’s specific brand of enthusiastic chaos.

Kristoff – Jonathan Groff

Jonathan Groff handles Kristoff again, which is great because Groff’s got this specific grounded energy that balances out Anna and Elsa’s intensity. He’s a Broadway guy too, Hamilton, Spring Awakening, plus he was in Mindhunter on Netflix. Kristoff’s the practical mountain man who talks to his reindeer, and Groff makes that work somehow. In LEGO form this is probably gonna be even funnier.

Olaf – Josh Gad

Josh Gad as Olaf is back, thank god. Like, could you imagine getting a different Olaf voice? Gad IS Olaf at this point. He’s done a ton of other stuff, Beauty and the Beast as LeFou, various animated movies, Broadway in Book of Mormon, but Olaf’s probably his most iconic role. The guy can make a snowman who wants to experience summer genuinely lovable instead of annoying, which is harder than it sounds.

The Villain Returns Too

Duke of Weselton – Alan Tudyk

And here’s a fun surprise, Alan Tudyk’s back as the Duke of Weselton! Remember him from the first Frozen movie, the sketchy little guy who was scared of Elsa’s powers? Tudyk’s basically Disney’s good luck charm at this point. He’s been in Wreck-It Ralph, Big Hero 6, Moana, Raya, Encanto… the man’s in EVERYTHING. He does villain roles and comedic side characters incredibly well, and bringing the Duke back for a LEGO special means we’re probably getting some good comedic villain energy.

Plus Tudyk’s great at physical comedy even when it’s just voice work, which is perfect for LEGO’s exaggerated animation style.

Why Getting the Original Cast Matters

Here’s the thing, most LEGO specials use soundalike voice actors because getting the original cast is expensive and scheduling is a nightmare. The fact that Disney got Menzel, Bell, Groff, Gad, AND Tudyk back for this suggests they’re taking Operation Puffins more seriously than your average LEGO special.

It also means the characters are gonna feel authentic. These actors know their characters inside and out after two movies and various shorts. They don’t need to figure out how to play Elsa or Anna or Olaf, they just show up and do their thing, even if they’re now LEGO minifigures.

What We Know About Operation Puffins

The plot involves saving puffins (obviously), and apparently the Duke of Weselton is causing problems again. Beyond that, Disney’s been pretty vague on specifics. But with this cast? It’s gonna feel like a legitimate Frozen story, just in LEGO format with probably more slapstick humor.

The voice actors will need to lean into the LEGO special vibe—it’s more comedic and fast-paced than the main movies—but they’ve all done comedy before. Bell and Gad especially are comedy pros.

Why Alan Tudyk Is Always in Disney Movies

Seriously though, Alan Tudyk’s been in so many Disney animated projects at this point that it’s become a running joke. He’s the go-to guy for comedic side characters and villains, and he clearly has a great working relationship with Disney Animation. Bringing him back as the Duke suggests this character might have a bigger role than we’d expect in a LEGO special.

Tudyk’s also great at improvisation, which LEGO specials sometimes incorporate. Could be fun.
