Sword of the Demon Hunter: Kijin Gentōshō (鬼人幻燈抄, Kijin Gentōshō) Historical fantasy with a dark, supernatural twist, keep Sword of the Demon Hunter: Kijin Gentōshō on your radar. This upcoming 2025 anime is based on the popular Japanese novel series by Moto’o Nakanishi, with gorgeous illustrations by Tamaki.

The story’s got some serious roots,it originally popped up online between 2013 and 2016 on the user-generated fiction site Arcadia, before moving to the ever-popular Shōsetsuka ni Narō platform. Eventually, it caught the attention of Futabasha, who picked it up and published 14 light novel volumes between June 2019 and November 2023.

Not just stopping at novels, Kijin Gentōshō also got a manga adaptation thanks to artist Yū Satomi. It’s been running since September 2021 in Monthly Action and Manga Action magazines, and as of now, it’s been collected into eight tankōbon volumes.

The best part? Both the original light novels and manga are officially licensed in English by Seven Seas Entertainment, so you don’t have to wait for fan translations (thank the kami).
