Doctor Meredith

Tucked away in the back alleys of New York City, Dr. Meredith operates a clinic that exists well outside the boundaries of conventional medicine. When Ash Lynx needs medical help for his severely damaged brother Griffin, this unlicensed back-alley doctor becomes one of the few adults in Ash's world who offers something resembling reliable support.

Doctor Meredith’s Role in Banana Fish

Gruff and territorial about his makeshift workspace, Meredith has a well-worn routine with Ash: medication on the desk, cash left in return, no pleasantries exchanged. Beneath that abrasive exterior, though, is someone who takes his work seriously. He dedicates genuine effort to analyzing the mysterious drug sample Ash brings him, running tests and documenting results with a diligence that suggests his medical instincts never really left him despite losing his license. His findings about the Banana Fish substance, including its chemical similarity to LSD but with dramatically more severe and uncontrollable effects, prove pivotal to Ash’s early investigation. Meredith also tends to Griffin with care, making him an unlikely but significant figure in one of the series’ most emotionally heavy subplots.

Who Voices Doctor Meredith in Banana Fish?

In the original Japanese production, Doctor Meredith is voiced by Takashi Nagasako, a veteran voice actor whose deep, authoritative bass has made him one of the most recognizable supporting voices in Japanese animation and gaming. He is widely known for voicing Ganondorf across multiple entries in The Legend of Zelda series, Donkey Kong in the Mario and Donkey Kong franchises, and King Yama in Hozuki’s Coolheadedness. No traditional English dub cast has been confirmed for the Banana Fish anime series.
