Bones

Loyalty runs bone-deep for some people, and in the brutal street-gang world of MAPPA's 2018 anime Banana Fish, Bones puts that truth on full display. A lieutenant in Ash Lynx's gang, he wears his role as guardian and soldier without fanfare, his patchwork appearance, braided pink hair, chipped teeth, and one dangling overall strap, hiding a sharper instinct than most rivals ever expect.

Bones’ Personality and Role in Banana Fish

Among the hardened figures that populate Ash’s world, Bones stands out precisely because he isn’t trying to be the toughest in the room. His primary assignment is protecting Eiji Okumura whenever Ash cannot be present, and he takes that duty seriously, forming a surprisingly warm dynamic with the Japanese photographer’s assistant. Close friends with fellow gang member Kong, Bones is regularly seen in lighter moments that cut through the anime’s relentless tension. What keeps him interesting is the contrast: a skilled fighter who reserves his ferocity for when it’s actually needed, guided far more by quiet loyalty than by ego.

Who Voices Bones in Banana Fish?

In the original Japanese production, Bones is voiced by Masato Niwa, a seiyuu whose credits extend across some of the medium’s most celebrated recent titles, including the role of the Sniper Assassin in SPY x FAMILY Season 2 and Mord in Vinland Saga. Banana Fish did not receive an official English dub, so no English-language voice cast exists for the series.
