The Riddler

The Riddler’s Role in Batman: Knightfall Part 1: Knightfall
In the Knightfall story, the Riddler’s trademark riddle-laden crimes serve a ruthless purpose he never intended: wearing Batman down as part of Bane’s calculated gauntlet. Bane even forces a dose of the Venom drug into Nygma to turn the cerebral schemer into a physically dangerous threat, an act that underscores just how little Bane regards the Riddler beyond his usefulness as a tool. There is dark irony in watching a villain whose entire identity is built on intellectual superiority become a puppet in someone else’s game. That tension between Nygma’s fragile ego and his utter expendability in Bane’s eyes gives the character a bitter edge that goes well beyond green spandex and question marks.
Who Voices The Riddler in Batman: Knightfall Part 1: Knightfall?
David Dastmalchian brings Edward Nygma to animated life in this film. Dastmalchian is no stranger to the world of Gotham, having made his feature film debut as Thomas Schiff, one of the Joker’s deranged henchmen, in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight back in 2008. Since then he has built a career on unsettling, layered performances, including Polka-Dot Man in The Suicide Squad and Piter De Vries in Denis Villeneuve’s Dune. His ability to play characters defined by obsession and fragility makes the casting feel particularly well-suited for a Riddler stripped of his usual sense of control.
