Hanbei

Hanbei’s Role and Personality in Sekiro: No Defeat
Hanbei is what the world of Ashina calls “infested” – kept alive against his will by a centipede demon lodged within him, granting him immortality he never asked for. In the original game lore that the anime draws from, he serves Wolf as a training partner, offering his unkillable body for sparring and sharing hard-won wisdom about combat. That willingness to endure pain for the sake of another shinobi’s growth says everything about who he is. Beneath the weariness is a man of honor, one whose deepest wish is simply to be allowed to die on his own terms. His arc takes a quiet but devastating turn when the Mortal Blade enters the picture, and Hanbei recognizes it as his one chance at a true ending.
Who Voices Hanbei in Sekiro: No Defeat?
Akimitsu Takase reprises the role of Hanbei in the Japanese version of Sekiro: No Defeat, carrying over his performance directly from Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice (2019). Takase is a veteran of the industry whose credits span decades, including his role as Darius Baer Walbrunn in Attack on Titan and Marco in Shaman King. His ability to voice authority figures and weathered soldiers makes him a natural fit for a character defined by exhausted dignity.
